Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived in India on Saturday evening for an extensive week-long visit. His trip includes business meetings in various cities and stops at religious and cultural sites. About 3.5 percent of Canadians have Indian roots. SHWETA BAJAJ has the details.
As Justin Trudeau arrives in Delhi, its business and local politics on his mind. He starts his 7-day Trip with a flight to see Taj Mahal. This will be followed by a visit to Ahmedabad and then Mumbai. Both the cities will see business meetings and visiting a management school. Bilateral trade stands at only 8 billion dollars – Both the countries hope to improve it. The areas for collaboration will cover innovation, infrastructure, and investment in India's burgeoning infrastructure demands among others.

Canada is home to a large number of Indians. 3.5 percent of Canadians are people of Indian origin. Out of these 50 percent are Sikhs who are influential in the country.

He would be visiting sites of political and cultural importance here in India including Taj Mahal in Agra, Mahatma Gandhi's Ashram in Ahmedabad and also the Golden temple in Punjab – which is considered to be the most important pilgrimage site of the Sikhs - who are a powerful vote bank back in Canada."
His visit will also include the issue of Khalistan. A leading weekly magazine in India recently did a report that accuses the Canadian government of being complicit towards Sikh nationalism cause which gave a rise to a terrorist movement called Khalistan.
At the end of the week, Trudeau will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hold delegation level talks. Security, counter terrorism and all issues of global convergences will be discussed.
