The annual Shanghai Forum conference is being held from May 26th to 28th, under the theme "Asian Responsibility in a World of Change".
Universities, think tanks, enterprises, and media from 28 countries and regions are participating in the discussions. The issues covered include major-country relationships, artificial intelligence, green governance, green financial innovation, and polar governance and exploration.
WANG XINKUI, CHAIRMAN SHANGHAI'S WTO AFFAIRS CONSULTATION CENTER "China's implemented three measures to boost its opening up. First, we widened the import channels. Second, we reduced certain import tariffs, for example on imported vehicles and parts. Yet the third measure we've taken has barely been noticed. When the central government set up the Hainan Island Free Trade Port, it clearly stated in the policy that the FTZ allows no processing trade, which is the major cause of trade imbalances."
LUIZ CARLOS BRESSER-PEREIRA FORMER BRAZILIAN MINISTER FOR FINANCE "China is the greatest partner of Brazil. But our cooperation is much smaller than it could be. In the WTO we have more understandings, but the WTO is weak today given the disposition of the US. Brazil is very supportive of the WTO and China also. China is a leading country in Artificial Intelligence, and Brazil is also something about this."
