NASA’s Cassini probe, which expanded understanding of the gas giant, is facing its final hours before the last plunge into Saturn on Friday.
Cassini took a series of missions, such as the liquid methane seas of the planet's giant moon Titan and the sprawling subsurface ocean of Enceladus, a small Saturn moon and also orbited Saturn roughly 300 times, it has subverted people’s understanding of the outer solar system.
When Cassini was launched in 1997, it was equipped with the highest end scientific instruments at that time and also had 2.5-tonne weight, at the end of 1997, it landed on Titan to kick off its investigation.
Cassini’s final journey started on April 22, 2017, its last five orbits will take it through Saturn’s uppermost atmosphere, before a final plunge directly into the planet on September 15.
