Breakups seldom end well, yet a man named Wu from east China’s Nanchang city, Jiangxi Province, took things a little bit too far.
When it came to splitting from his girlfriend, he gave her a “breakup bill,” an invoice detailing all of the expenses he had paid for during their relationship.

Wu and his dismayed girlfriend, named Liu, had dated for eight years. A lot of their time as a couple was spent in a long distance relationship, given that Liu worked in a different city.
Despite their struggling relationship, the couple visited each other’s families, exchanged betrothal gifts and held a wedding banquet, even though they hadn’t obtained marriage certificates.
Their relationship hit a new low last week, when Liu accepted help for something from a male friend, apparently making Wu feel jealous. After Wu demanded that she let him confront her male friend, it was the straw that broke the camel's back, and Liu made an impulsive decision to break up with Wu.
Surprised and feeling offended, Wu drafted a “breakup checklist,” detailing all the expenses he had incurred for Liu, ranging from bottled milk drinks, candies and biscuits valued below 100 yuan (15 US dollars) to a diamond ring and betrothal gifts valued at over 100,000 yuan (15,000 US dollars).

Last Sunday, he confronted Liu and showed her the checklist. The exhaustive and rather petty list of numbers immediately infuriated her, and a heated argument descended into a full-on physical fight.

Liu even took out a knife, Wu told Chengdu Television.
Families from both sides also got involved, and the police were called to mediate at the local hospital where the couple received medical help.

After the commotion was exposed on Chinese social platform Weibo, their bizarre breakup story was read by millions of netizens.
“I can understand that he wants the betrothal money back, but come on, even money for the bottled milk drink?” @ ayantongxue commented.
