Another milestone step for this nuclear power project. Workers have installed a containment dome for the Hualong One nuclear power unit. The containment dome was installed on the nuclear island of the No. 3 nuclear power unit of the Fangchenggang nuclear power station in Fangchenggang City. Weighing over 260 tons, measuring 45 meters in diameter. The installation of the dome was for sure no easy task.
CHEN JIAN, DIRECTOR FANGCHENGGANG NUCLEAR POWER STATION "Considering its weight and volume, the installation was very demanding, as it requires high precision with errors of alignment controlled within 2 millimeters."
The dome installation came ten days ahead of schedule and will be followed by the installation of equipment on a nuclear unit owned by the China General Nuclear Power Corporation marking the completion of construction work, and the beginning of the assembly stage.
CHEN JIAN, DIRECTOR FANGCHENGGANG NUCLEAR POWER STATION "When we start to install the dome, it means that the Hualong One technology has been effectively adopted in the project. All the design and construction work has been completed. It's a remarkable stage for us."
The Hualong One technology is a pressurized water reactor design that is used in homegrown third-generation reactors. It is China's only domestically-developed third-generation nuclear technology that has so far gone international. Experts say the nuclear power industry in China has "made significant headway in recent years, with its advantages basically taking shape. With regard to industry scale and business prospects, China has become a global center of third generation nuclear power.
