China's President Xi Jinping has hosted a welcome ceremony for Ecuadorian President Lenín Moreno in Beijing. The two leaders held talks and witnessed the signing of multiple deals. Mark Fontes has more.
Ecuadorean President Lenín Moreno has arrived in the Chinese capital, his first visit to China since assuming office in 2017. In talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the two sides committed to deepen cooperation and strengthen communication. The leaders witnessed the signing of multiple deals, including a Memorandum of Understanding on the Belt and Road Initiative. This makes Ecuador the 16th Latin American country to sign such a document. The two sides have committed to greater cooperation in agriculture, information technology, new energy, as well as disaster response. Moreno said Ecuador wishes to increase exports to China and to host the China-Latin America Entrepreneur summit. During President Moreno's three-day visit, he will also attend the opening ceremony of the Forum on China-Ecuador Economic and Trade Cooperation, and meet with the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
