Meanwhile, award-winning artist Xu Bing is showcasing sixty pieces of his works from the past four decades in Jakarta. His work is known for transcending western and Chinese elements to explore political and cultural issues. CGTN's Silkina Ahluwalia reports from Jakarta.
This is the first and biggest solo exhibition by a Chinese artist in Indonesia. "Xu Bing: Thought and Method" showcases 40 years worth of drawings, installations and films.
It will be on display in Jakarta's Museum Macan until the 12th of January 2020.
XU BING ARTIST "I think a good retrospective exhibition will allow people to see multiple layers of the work. Otherwise it couldn't satisfy the audience. It will be a disadvantage instead of a bonus. I think this is a good opportunity for us to have dialogue with young people of different backgrounds."
One of his most iconic works is "Book from the Sky" where four thousand false Chinese characters overflow from the ceiling to trick the audience and make them question their own intelligence.
In this next installation, Xu Bing created a language system, a perfect blend of Chinese art and English writing.
SILKINA AHLUWALIA JAKARTA, INDONESIA "This is one out of 60 artworks that are displayed here at the museum and it's one of his most interesting ones. He uses English letters, and slightly alters them to create Chinese characters."
And, it's popular among visitors.
"I'm a new art lover and for me, I thought art was just paintings, but this exhibition has shown me that art can be interactive and showcased using many mediums. I am learning a lot."
The exhibition explores cultural dimensions in a unique way, giving viewers a fresh perspective on art. Silkina Ahluwalia, CGTN, Jakarta.
