US Sanctions on the DPRK: Washington imposes fresh sanctions related to assassination of Kim Jong Nam
[]
The US has imposed additional sanctions on the DPRK, claiming Pyongyang was behind the killing of leader Kim Jong Un's half-brother in Malaysia last year. Kim's estranged half-brother, Kim Jong Nam, was killed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, when two women smeared his face with the banned chemical weapons agent known as VX.
Earlier, President Trump welcomed the DPRK's breakthrough offer of denuclearization talks as positive -- and apparently sincere -- but also said it may be false hope. Trump declined to say whether he had any preconditions for talks with Pyongyang.
Meanwhile Vice President Pence said the United States would continue to apply maximum pressure on the DPRK, and that all options were on the table until Washington sees evidence, that the reclusive country was taking steps towards denuclearization.
