Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner announced a curfew on Tuesday to prevent property crimes against homes evacuated after unprecedented flooding from Hurricane Harvey.
The curfew starts at midnight and will end at 5:00 a.m. until further notice.
Turner initially issued a curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. but later modified it to "allow volunteers and others to do their great work."
The record-breaking floods have already caused 19 deaths and forced thousands of others to evacuate their homes.
More than 17,000 people have sought refuge in shelters and the number is expected to rise as rainfall continues, according to the American Red Cross.
