Golden Horse Awards: Zhang Yimou's ‘Shadow’ leads award nominations

Awards season is gearing up for the Chinese film industry, as the Golden Horse Awards approaches. Director Zhang Yimou's latest film "Shadow" is nominated for 12 categories, leading the field ahead of the ceremony in Taipei on November 17. Let's take a look at which other films are competing.
Shadow is sweeping the nominations chart, with 12 nods -- including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Sun Li and best actor for Deng Chao, who was previously nominated in 2015 for The Dead End.
Set during China's Three Kingdom's era, Zhang Yimou's historical film tells the story of a violent and ambitious king.
Chinese box office hit "Dying to Survive" received 7 nominations, including best picture. 
Nominees for Best Actor are Deng Chao, Duan Yihong, Roy Chiu, Xu Zheng, and Peng Yuchang.
Best actress nominees include Hsieh Ying-xuan, Zhou Xun, Sun Li, Zhao Tao, and Zeng Meihuizi.
Gunning for the Best Director award are Zhang Yimou, Bi Gan, Jiang Wen, Pema Tseden, and Lou Ye.
The 55th Golden Horse Awards will take place on November 17 in Taipei. This year's jury chair is Gong Li, who will lead a team of 11 members.
