What are the top Chinese words used in English? A report by China International Publishing Group has found among the top 100 Chinese words recognized around the globe, more than 40 percent come from traditional Chinese culture.
"Shaolin," from the Shaolin Temple, tops the list, while "Gugong", the Chinese word for the Forbidden City, is in fourth place. Some Chinese words about martial arts, such as "Qigong" and "Wushu" also squeezed into the top 10 list.
Among the top 100, traditional Chinese holidays, such as "Chunjie" - Spring Festival, and "Chongyang" - Double Ninth Festival, account for a large portion of the list.
According to the report, more and more Chinese words are now being popularized with their phonetic pinyin spelling.
