In South Africa, classic car enthusiasts gather every month to showcase an astonishing array of vintage cars. The cars range from those built before 1910 to later classics dating up to 1985. CGTN's Yolisa Njamela has more.
It's quite a colourful spectacle. Vintage, old timers, customized and other special cars are showcased here in Piston Ring Club in Modderfontein.
The monthly gathering boosts some of the world's most sought-after collector's cars. You name it, and you'll most likely find your favorite classic car here.
YOLISA NJAMELA MODDERFONTEIN, SOUTH AFRICA "Vintage or classic cars are a work of art, from the rarity of the cars, they're performance, their originality and their sheer beauty."
Each month, previously undiscovered classics emerge from lockups from around the province and head for this motoring celebration.
RUSSEL HASELAU CHAIRMAN, PISTON RING CLUB "It's open to classic old cars manufactured before, twenty years and older. So before 1999 and it doesn't matter, it's actually not only cars it's all transport related equipment so anything with wheels."
For old car enthusiasts, this is a place to be at, every month.
ROY GOUWS CAR ENTHUSIAST "The Piston ring pretty much makes provision for anyone that has a classic. There's not too many car clubs of how can I say, venues that host an event of this scale, where all marks of cars are welcomed. To do you know, join in their own respective club format or even if you're not part of a club, you're still welcomed to come to the grounds and enjoy yourself as such."
The Piston Ring is the largest car club of its type in South Africa with over eight hundred members.
RUSSEL HASELAU CHAIRMAN, PISTON RING CLUB "We still get cars that came in 1970 that collectors have them. Cars do change hands. In fact we have two swap meetings every year, which we have in an area for people to sell cars and also to get rid of their unwanted spares and to swap or sell their spares."
On average, between three hundred and four hundred vintage cars are displayed here.
