CCTV's Spring Festival Gala is utilizing 4K resolution cameras to provide viewers in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangdong and Guizhou provinces with Ultra HD viewing options on cable television's CCTV section.
The 4K Ultra HD resolution is three times clearer than regular HD resolutions, and has a quality better than traditional films. CCTV Technology Production Center deputy chief Zhao Guihua said all 12 cameras on site were replaced with 4K cameras. The 3D audio quality can also compete with movie theaters.
Starting Friday, CCTV has been providing 4K resolution of events at the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics on its cable TV section in Beijing and Guizhou Province. The 4K option will soon be open for viewers in Shanghai and Guangdong Province in time for the gala.
The broadcaster has set up its cable TV section in over 20 provinces in China, covering over 50 million users. It will work on expanding the service after the Spring Festival Gala, aiming to cover the whole nation within the first half of 2018.
Besides the technology used in airing the gala, CCTV will also air the gala live with LED lights projecting on its Beijing headquarters.
