The US announced on Monday it would impose anti-dumping duties on imports of hardwood plywood products from China, which last year totaled 1.12 billion US dollars.
It is the latest move by the US Commerce Department against Chinese goods it deems to have benefited from state subsidies and comes following fresh duties on aluminum foil unveiled last month.
The Commerce Department believes exporters from China sold hardwood plywood products in the US for less than they were worth, according to an online statement.
The statement also said China was providing subsidies to these producers and US would impose tariffs at corresponding rates.
The Commerce Department started the investigation at the end of last year.
The Commerce Department launched an investigation into hardwood plywood products imported from China in 2012 which was rejected by the US International Trade Commission.
China’s Ministry of Commerce has yet to respond.
