NHK documentary on WWII crimes triggers heated debate

A documentary has unveiled fresh evidence of the human experiments and germ war crimes carried out by Japan's notorious Unit 731 in the Chinese city of Harbin during the Second World War. 
Many details about the camp's horrors were depicted in the documentary, which was aired recently in Japan. 
The documentary, released by Japan's public broadcaster NHK, has sparked heated discussion in both China and Japan. Many Chinese spoke highly of the documentary which faced up to history, calling NHK a media agency with a conscience. 
While in Japan, many viewers were astonished by the facts aired in the documentary, saying crimes like this should never happen again.
The NHK documentary covered lethal human experiments conducted in northern China by Japan's secret military unit 731. 
It was the first time that Japanese media aired testimonies from Unit 731 participants and made related trial records public.
