Our reporter Yang Chengxi explains the underlying principles of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, how its features and spirit show a new form of international cooperation, demonstrating a global community with a shared future for mankind.
This is the birthplace of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the Shanghai spirit. It is a spirit based on mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultations, respect for cultural diversity, and a desire for common development.
This is an organization that prioritizes regional security. Since its inception, members have been strengthening their military cooperation. They work together in preventing conflicts, while also fighting terrorism, separatism, as well as extremism.
The underlying principle of the SCO is respect. No matter big or small, members respect each other's sovereignty, and the SCO's non-alignment philosophy dictates that it does not target other countries in the world.
Most members of the SCO are developing countries. A major goal for them is to foster growth using each other's comparative advantages.
Last but not least, it is important to bear in mind that this is an organization which encompasses two thirds of the Eurasian continent with more than 200 ethnicities. The SCO believes that respecting different cultures and social values is one of the most important ways to avoid conflicts.
The spirit of the SCO makes it a new form of international organization, and a part of the global community with a shared future for mankind.
