Updated 22:05, 24-Aug-2019
We continue now with our special series – Decoding plants: how florists transform our lives? Today, we will meet a floral designer from Germany – Björn Kroner, who is considered one of the most gifted in all of Europe. Having been in this industry for 20-plus years, he keeps exploring fresh and exciting new things. CGTN's Yang Jinghao has the story.
BJÖRN KRONER FLORAL DESIGNER My name is Björn Kroner. I come from Germany. I'm 38 years old. I'm a floral designer, a master floral designer.
I started almost 22 years ago, so for over half my life I've been a floral designer. I really love it – love to create something new, and it's like you give in emotion. When I'm handing over a hand tie which I did for somebody for a birthday, or anything like that, you get so much emotion back and so much reaction in their faces. It's just nice.
Some people say we have the most beautiful job in the world. I love that flowers have freedom, everything is loose and airy, you can see movement and color. Of course, I love to play with different colors, different proportions. Sometimes people say my arrangement looks more like they are flying, very light.
Without creativity, you can't actually do this. It's nothing that you can actually measure, or deal with mathematics.
I think every country has their own flower history. If you go to the Netherlands – Germany is next to the border, the flower culture is totally different. The handling of how they use flowers is totally different.
Everybody learns from everybody. My main rule is what I have learned from my mentor, I'm just forwarding it to the next person. Everything has to be in a flow. I'm giving and I can also receive something.
Now I feel like I need to move on a little bit and find new areas where I can work. So it means that I am going in a totally different direction. I have one hand on the floral design part, but on the other hand, I love all the table culture. So I'm now trying to combine this – the point of table culture with flowers. I have to be all the time on the move.
