Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi wrapped up his two-day visit to Russia on Thursday, meeting President Vladimir Putin, and his counterpart Sergey Lavrov.
During the visit, Wang discussed two pressing issues that have global implications: the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the tariff tit-for-tat between China and the US.
Wang also passed on congratulations from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Putin for winning last month's election, calling the two countries comprehensive strategic partners of coordination.
This is not only due to the wise political decisions made by the two leaders in view of the general trends in the world, but also based on the long-term internal needs of their national development, Wang said.
"The two countries have the highest level of political mutual trust and the relationship has reached a new level," he added.
President Putin will be in China in June for a state visit, as well as attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Qingdao.
"I would like to express hope that after the Russian presidential election and important political events in the People's Republic of China, we will continue our course aimed at further strengthening bilateral ties," Putin said.
Praising the very good relations between Russia and China, Putin said that as neighboring countries and natural partners, the two countries have established their comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination as a result of careful consideration and not expedient measures.
Wang visited Russia on April 4 and 5 as the special envoy of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Wang met with his counterpart Sergey Lavrov earlier on Thursday and the two exchanged views on bilateral ties, the Korean Peninsula, anti-terrorism and other issues on the international and regional agenda, and committed to further joint coordination in international affairs so as to promote world peace and stability.
