A US-backed Syrian Kurdish militia group said on Tuesday it was close to seizing full control of southern neighborhoods of Raqqa, the de facto capital of the ISIS.
The militia, called the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), launched its campaign to seize Raqqa in early June 2017.
The operation came during the final stage of the offensive to drive ISIL fighters out of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Iraqi security forces managed to retake the city from the terrorist group last month.
The Syrian army has also advanced to the outskirts of Raqqa.
