Park Geun-Hye Hearing: Prosecutors seek 30-year jail term for former president Park

Prosecutors in South Korea on Tuesday demanded a 30-year prison sentence for ousted President Park Geun-hye, following a high-profile corruption scandal. The 66-year-old was indicted last April on 18 charges, including bribery, abuse of power, and leaking state secrets. Prosecutors this year added fresh charges, such as violations of election laws. Park is accused of colluding with her long-time friend Choi Soon-sil, to extort nearly 55 million US dollars from conglomerates, including Samsung and Lotte, in exchange for special treatment. She's also being indicted for allowing Choi to meddle in state affairs despite having no official post in government. Choi was sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Seoul Central District Court earlier this month.
