The conflict between Donald Trump and CNN reached a new level Wednesday as the US President kicked the news channel's chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta out of a press conference for persistent questions on his racially charged comments.
The US president was sitting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev when Jim Acosta began quizzing him. Trump was reported to have used the term "s***hole countries" when speaking about Latin American and African migrants in a White House meeting last week. The president also said that he prefers migrants from Norway, which has far better living standards than the US.
During the press conference's question and answer session, Acosta shouted “Did you say that you want more people to come in from Norway? Did you say that you wanted more people from Norway? Is that true Mr. President?”
“I want them to come in from everywhere. Thank you very much everybody,” Trump responded as Acosta continued to bark questions.
While a female White House aide was trying to wrap up the session, Acosta shouted again “Just Caucasian or white countries, sir? Or do you want people to come in from other parts of the world… people of color?”
This was the tipping point for Trump. He pointed directly at Acosta and simply said, “Out!”
The aide then said: “Jim, thank you.”
Following the conference, Acosta took to Twitter to claim White House staffers shouted in his face to prevent him from asking questions.
Trump has frequently gone after CNN since he began his candidacy for president. The president has at various times dubbed it “fake news CNN."
