Hindus in India celebrated the annual Dahi Handi festival on Tuesday, marking the birth of Lord Krishna.
Devotees form a human pyramid to break a clay pot containing curd during the celebrations to commemorate the festival of Janmashtami.
The festival is based on the legend that child Krishna used to steal butter and curd from a pot tied at a height by his mother.
Surrounded by cheering crowds, the human pyramids try to reach the earthen pot tied at the height of 20 feet (six meters).
This year's celebrations had a special patriotic flavor as the festival coincided with India's 70th Independence Day.
