European Union leaders have gathered in Brussels for a two-day summit to discuss terrorism, defense ties and migration.
The summit is the first EU-UK meeting since the British election and also marks the Brussels debut of French President Emmanuel Macron.
His recent election has created renewed confidence among the remaining 27 states after the Brexit vote. Analysts believe anti-EU sentiment and support for populist parties is waning.
Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May has stressed her priority is to settle the issue of the fate of EU citizens living in the UK, and British citizens living in the EU.
