Political parties have begun registering for elections in Thailand. More than 30 parties submitted paperwork to compete in the upcoming general election. More are expected to register before the March 31st deadline. It is the first sign of political activity being officially allowed in the country since a military coup in 2014. The Prime Minister said a general election would take place "no later" than February. To be officially recognised, the parties must satisfy a bunch of requirements within 180 days and get the junta's permission. Thailand's military government has promised and then postponed elections several times since it came to power four years ago.
