‍China on Wednesday called for constructive dialogue and negotiations on China-US trade frictions.
Vice Finance Minister Zhu Guangyao made the remarks during a press conference after China announced new punitive measures against 106 US products, including penalties on soybean imports.
The country's decision was a response to the US’s announcement of a proposed list of 1,300 Chinese products subject to an additional 25 percent tariff under the Section 301 investigation.
"We don't want a trade war because that will only bring losses to both sides," Zhu said.
"This is in total violation of international rules," said Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen during the press conference, saying the country is not afraid of "trade war."
During the press conference, Wang also answered a question by a CGTN reporter about US President Donald Trump’s demand for a reduction in China's trade surplus with the US.
The demand is unacceptable, said Wang, adding that cutting the deficit requires efforts from both sides.
