The US plan to impose 100 billion US dollars in additional tariffs on Chinese imports will harm not only China but also the common interest of the global community, said China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, noting that the country will fight back resolutely.
“We believe that the US side is countering against multilateralism and free trade with unilateralism and protectionism,” the ministry’s spokesperson Lu Kang said when asked about the nature of the so-called "trade war".
“If multilateralism and free trade are threatened, the process of economic globalization will be damaged and the recovery of the entire world economy would be severely threatened.”
Lu reiterated that China is fully prepared and will immediately fight back without hesitation if the US announces a list of additional tariffs on Chinese products.
"It appears that the US side seriously misjudged the situation and took the wrong action, which will ultimately hurt its own interests," Lu said.
