The World Peace Forum has begun in Beijing. Attendees to the two-day meeting will take a close look at international security issues. Wang Hui has more.
Diplomats from more than 50 countries, as well as hundreds of international experts and academics are in the Chinese capital this week for the World Peace Forum, a meeting which analyses global security issues and looks for ways to resolve them. Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan addressed the opening ceremony, in which he reiterated Beijing's position on global security and economic development.
WANG QISHAN CHINESE VICE PRESIDENT "China will firmly walk on the path of peaceful development. China will never seek hegemony of the world, expansion and sphere of influence. Countries should facilitate economic globalization, and construct a more fair, reasonable, stable and effective international order."
China has long been an advocate of multilateralism and this is something former president of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy also championed.
WANG HUI BEIJING "The World Peace Forum was created in 2012. It's China's first non-official high-level annual forum on international security."
