NCAA Men's Basketball Final: Villanova 79 - Michigan 62
[]
Over to the US College Basketball now and the national title game. The Villanova Wildcats, arguably the top team all season facing Michigan for a chance to claim their second crown in two years. Nova, and Donte DiVincenzo have been on a tear during the tournament, winning their previous five contests by double-digits. But they would face a red-hot Wolverines team that had won 14 straight games.
The underdog Wolverines take the game to Nova early, Moritz Wagner spins off his man and gets to the cup to give his side a 5-point lead.
And then Jordan Poole gets to the rack for the And1, and Michigan is in the driver's seat.
But that's when it became the Donte DiVincenzo show, the red-head faking the triple, and stepping into a jumper. Nova within 5.
The Sophomore guard would score 9 straight points during one stretch, including this triple, as the Wildcats move in front.
They would lead by 9 at the break, and extend it in the second half, as they started raining down threes -- Eric Paschall hitting and the lead is a dozen.
DiVincenzo was in a zone and cans another triple -- finishing with 31, all off the bench, the most in Championship game history -- Wildcats up 18.
And when Michigan tried to get the ball out of his hands the kid nicknamed Big Ragu, has his teammates step-up -- Mikal Bridges pretty much sealing things late.
Nova run out 79-62 winners, and claim their second title in three years, and third overall, with DiVincenzo earning the most outstanding player honours of the Final Four.
