World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova reached the semi-finals of the WTA finals for the first time by beating Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza in straight sets.
Pliskova opened the season-ending event for the top eight players by beating Venus Williams, and the Czech maintained her form in Singapore on Tuesday with a  6-2 6-2 victory over the Spaniard.
Pliskova was all smiles as she emerged on the court. And her positive attitude would help her break the second seed and rush to a 4-2 lead in the first set. She never looked in danger after that.

Pliskova also topped the White group after Williams, 37, had battled to victory in more than three hours against French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, getting through in three close sets 7-5 6-7 (3/7) 7-5.
The match was the third longest match in WTA Finals history at three hours and 13 minutes. The American will face Muguruza for a spot in the semi-finals, while Ostapenko cannot advance after two losses.
