Republic of Korea (ROK) President Moon Jae-in decided to send a team of special envoys to visit the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Monday after top DPRK leader Kim Jong Un dispatched an official delegation to the ROK last month.
The 10-member ROK mission will be led by Chung Eui-yong, a top national security adviser for Moon and head of the National Security Office at the Blue House, Yoon Young-chan, Moon's senior press secretary, told a press briefing on Sunday.
Four others also deemed special envoys on the trip are Suh Hoon, director of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the country's spy agency; Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung, Second Deputy NIS Director Kim Sang-gyun, and Yun Kun-young, a senior Blue House official.
The delegation will travel to Pyongyang via a western direct route on a special plane on Monday afternoon.
The members will meet senior-level DPRK officials on promoting peace on the Korean Peninsula and improving inter-Korean relations, the Blue House press secretary said.
It would be the return visit to that of Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of the DPRK leader who made a three-day visit to the ROK to attend the Winter Olympics last month.

The Blue House press secretary said the special delegation will hold comprehensive talks with DPRK officials on issues including conditions to be created for negotiations between the DPRK and the US to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, and for improved inter-Korean relations such as more exchanges between the two countries.
The special delegation is due back in Seoul on Tuesday afternoon and will report to President Moon before flying to the US to breif Trump administrations officials.
The ROK will closely cooperate with China and Japan, the Blue House press secretary said.
