After a brief delay due to Pay-Per View outages in the US, undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. improved his record to 50-0 with a 10th-round TKO of U.F.C. lightweight champ Conor McGregor at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas
The bout ended with 1:55 remaining in the 10th as Mayweather unleashed a flurry of punches on the Irishman, prompting the referee to end the beating.
If not the most-anticipated, it was certainly the most lucrative fight in history. Mayweather was guaranteed a purse of 100 million US dollars for the second time in three fights, ESPN reported. McGregor walks away with a guaranteed purse of 30 million US dollars, significantly smaller than that of his opponent, but light-years away from the prize money in his previous MMA fights. Neither of the two quoted numbers includes the Pay-Per-View payout, sponsorships or tickets revenue. The official number of subscriptions has yet to be released.
Following his win, Mayweather announced his retirement from the sport which he's been the face for over a decade.
The event reached a worldwide audience. In China, local bars hosted fight parties and brunches starting from 9 a.m. until the final bell.
