"I have a reputation of being very strong, I have a nickname, The Fighter. Before assuming [office] as Chief Executive, even as the number two, the Chief Secretary for Administration, I was very low key, I don't promote myself, I was just a very proactive, responsible official, helping the Chief Executive to deliver his mission," said Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam in an exclusive interview with CGTN’s World Insight on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Earlier this year, Lam won the three-way election with 777 votes out of the 1,194-member Election Committee as the Beijing-favored candidate, beating former Financial Secretary John Tsang and retired judge Woo Kwok-hing.
Her victory made her the first female Chief Executive of Hong Kong.
After taking office, Lam began using Facebook, recognizing social media as a useful tool to communicate with people and let them get to know her better.
"Now I am the Chief Executive, the people in Hong Kong need to understand me as a person. So, I have been doing my Facebook, and use social media to communicate with people," she explained.

"Having done it for four months, I thought it was not a bad idea. You have something in your mind, you want to tell the people, but you can't do it in a very formal government announcement, Facebook is a pretty effective channel."
