The US Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday said his department has tripled the number of leak investigations and have already charged several people with unauthorized disclosures of classified information.
"This nation must end this culture of leaks... Leakers will be held accountable,” said Sessions.
The leaks have greatly upset President Donald Trump who has been pressuring Sessions to do more to stop them.
However, critics called the latest effort by Sessions and the federal government part of a campaign to divert attention from what was leaked onto the leak itself.
Prosecutor Robert Mueller has been investigating into the financial dealings of the Trump organization and members of his family going back at least to 2013, several years before he ran for president.
Considering both Trump and the Congress left for a two-and-a-half-week vacation, whatever is happening minute by minute, could indeed be a cliffhanger.
