The Maldives national security commission has approved an extension of the national state of emergency by 15 days, Xinhua reported, quoting a source.
Maldives President Abdulla Yameen had earlier on Monday asked parliament to approve the extension as "the situation has not changed" in the country.
The announcement was made in parliament by Deputy Secretary General of the legislature Fathmath Niusha.
Yameen imposed the state of emergency on February 6 for 15 days, having defied a Supreme Court ruling after it quashed convictions against nine opposition leaders and ordered his government to release those held in prison.
