Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday hailed the consensus reached during the seventh meeting of BRICS High Representatives for Security Issues, and said the two-day meeting had made important preparations for the upcoming BRICS summit in the eastern Chinese city of Xiamen in September.
Xi made the remarks when meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, South African Minister of State Security David Mahlobo, Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Brazilian Institutional Security Minister Sergio Etchegoyen, who were in Beijing for the gathering.

Xi said enhancing cooperation between BRICS countries not only safeguards and expands the interests of the five nations, but also helps explore ways to build a new type of international relations.
Faced with a complex situation of international politics, economy and security, we need to push forward cooperation in economy and finance, cultural exchanges as well as security communication and coordination, Xi noted.
The president stressed that China advocates joint efforts in the international community to make world economy develop in a sustainable way, and to allow globalization to progress in a just, inclusive and sustainable fashion.

Speaking of terrorism, Xi pointed out that the fundamental way to tackle the issue is through development.
The heads of the delegations of the other four countries expressed that the bloc needs to strengthen cooperation to jointly cope with challenges such as anti-globalization and terrorism, and to improve the bloc's influence in world affairs.
They also conveyed their willingness to cooperate with China to ensure that the upcoming Xiamen summit yields positive results.
Serving as a major platform for BRICS nations to cooperate and discuss political and security issues, the meeting on Thursday and Friday was chaired by Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi.
