Yang Xiaodu was born in October 1953. He received a master's degree in law at the Central Party School.
Beginning in 1976, Yang spent most of his career in the Tibet Autonomous Region, until he became the vice Chairman of Tibet Autonomous Regional Government in 2001.
The same year, he became the Vice Mayor of Shanghai, the same position he held until 2006.
In 2014, Yang became the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
He then took the position of Minister of Supervision in 2016, and Director of the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention the following year.
