Chinese President Xi Jinping and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon agreed on Thursday to establish comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries, four years after China and Tajikistan became strategic partners.
Rahmon is on a state visit to China and will attend the Dialogue of Emerging Markets and Developing Countries on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in early September in Xiamen, a coast city in east China's Fujian Province.
During their talks in Beijing, Xi hailed the "fruitful results" in the development of China-Tajikistan relations since the two countries established diplomatic ties 25 years ago.

He expressed China's appreciation of Tajikistan's support in the Belt and Road Initiative, adding that both countries were ancient civilizations along the Silk Road.
The Chinese president called on the two sides to strengthen cooperation in sectors such as transportation, energy, and port and network infrastructure construction to promote their all-round inter-connectivity.
Rahmon described China as a "good neighbor, good partner and good brother" of Tajikistan and reiterated the country's enthusiasm to participate in the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt, a part of the Belt of Road Initiative, which also includes the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road.
Tajikistan, a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), will make full efforts to support China's SCO rotating presidency, Rahmon said.
