German authorities said they would provide loans to Air Berlin, the country’s second largest carrier, after the company’s main shareholder Abu Dhabi-based Etihad, announced plans to stop providing funding.
German Economy Minister Brigitte Zypries says the loan of 150 million Euros will last for three months, and will help the air provider remain solvent in the near term.
Zypries said the government was providing the loans to guarantee the return of tourists and other travelers to the country.
