The Iranian judiciary has confirmed the younger brother of President Hassan Rouhani, Hossein Fereydoun, has been detained over financial charges. Fereydoun was being investigated by the judiciary before he was arrested on Saturday.
No details of the charges were revealed, but an official from the department said Fereydoun can be released on bail.
A number of other people have also been investigated and questioned in the continuing investigation. Fereydoun participated in the nuclear talks with major powers that led to a deal in 2015. Some Rouhani supporters suspect the charges against him are politically motivated.
