The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Wednesday that it has lifted the electronics ban on US-bound flights of Saudi Arabian Airlines, leaving only two Saudi airports covered by restrictions put in place in March.
Some experts believe the new US administration is using politics to make economic gains, as Arab carriers are competing with American airlines with more tourist flow. While others think the ban had a limited effect on the local aviation industry.
The decision to lift the ban came as a relief to the aviation industry in Cairo. While the US said the original ban on laptops and some electronic devices had been taken as a security measure, affecting 10 major airports in eight countries.
Meanwhile, Egypt has been working on a revamp of its security measure to attract more tourists. “Modern security equipments were installed in the luggage areas as well as the passenger halls, ” according to Gamal Rail, the head of Business News, October Weekly.
