Hundreds of anti-nuclear power demonstrators gathered in Taipei to commemorate the Fukushima nuclear disaster and urge Taiwan authorities to develop green energy instead of nuclear power. Demonstrators say it would be difficult for Taiwan to recover if a nuclear disaster were to happen there. Protesters were also concerned by a recent decision by the Atomic Energy Council to allow an energy company to restart a reactor at a facility near Taipei. The reactor has been offline since May 2016 after a glitch was found in its electrical system, which the company said has since been resolved.
