Meanwhile, ROBOTS are creating art at the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow. The experimental show "Daemons in the Machine" uses different forms of artificial intelligence, to create installations designed to make visitors see the world in a new way. Lucy Taylor reports.
Machine learning, neural networks, and even blockchain. These ideas might be familiar to you from the worlds of computing or finance. But this show at Moscow's Museum of Modern Art uses new technology to do something different.
DARIA PARKHOMENKO CURATOR "What we show here in this exhibition, it's art. It's not design, not only science experiments. This is what went through the collaboration with scientists and finalised in new shapes, new interpretation and new methods with art."
These robots spin their own patterns on the canvas. These old surgical lamps interpret news stories live from the internet with movement and noise. The theme is artificial intelligence. And it's interactive.
LUCY TAYLOR MOSCOW "This programme has previously been shown thousands of images of flowers, clouds, and oceans. So when it sees a new image, like me, it can only see it through the lens of what it's seen before."
It's all designed to bring new audiences to art. But is it a celebration of technology, or a warning about its power? This room puts visitors in an office, whose owner is trapped in a screen.
MARIA ZOLOTOVA COORDINATOR "We don't see himself, we just see his ghost in the monitor, and he is looking and going around and moving all parts of this table. So we are just trying to understand what is real and what is not in this world, and how technologies can behave themselves in this new world."
They say they show both our fantasies and our fears of the future, but you could be forgiven for thinking that the future is already here.
