Manchester City thrashed Liverpool 5-0 in the English Premier League on Saturday to briefly grab the top of the league table before cross-town rival Manchester United reclaimed the spot later in the day.
The two sides came into the contest with seven points each, but the match would become a lopsided affair after Liverpool lost a key player and had to play half the match with ten men.
City got on the board in the 24th minute. Kevin De Bruyne sent a through ball to Sergio Aguero. The Argentine striker rounded the keeper and easily found the net, scoring one point for the team. The goal was his 124th in the Premiership – the most by any non-European player.
Liverpool sought an equalizer in the 37th minute as Sadio Mane chased down a long ball, but he would collide with City’s keeper, Ederson, outside the area instead. The referee showed him a straight red, reducing the visitors to ten men for the rest of the match. Mane had his eyes on the ball, not the player, but still struck the City goalkeeper. Ederson was carried off the pitch and replaced by Claudio Bravo.

The treatment of Ederson resulted in eight minutes of stoppage time in the first half, and the hosts took advantage of the extra time as De Bruyne found Gabriel Jesus unmarked in the area. It was 2-0 at halftime.
After the restart, City started to come in waves. Aguero unselfishly laid it off to Jesus with the Brazilian tapping in his second of the match. City enjoyed a 3-0 cushion.
Leroy Sane came on for Jesus later in the match and added in their fourth goal 13 minutes from time.
In injury time, Sane showed off some stellar skill, unleashing a superb strike from about 25-yards out that found the corner of the net as City rolled to a 5-0 victory over the Reds. But the story of the match was undoubtedly the red card.
