Female bodyguards tackle domestic abuse in Spain

Spain logged more than 28,000 instances of domestic violence against women last year and to tackle this, an organization called EDEMM is offering 24-hour protection to vulnerable women free of charge.
The rise in domestic abuse for the second year in a row is a concern for authorities, underlining the desperate situation many women find themselves in.
EDEMM, which offers day and night free protection to vulnerable women, was set up by Carolina, a former police bodyguard.
The identities of staff members are kept anonymous as some of them were helped by EDEMM before joining it.
Carolina first set up the project in Bilbao and now EDEMM operates across Spain, although funding remains an issue.
“We want this idea to go international. That’s what we’re working towards, because there are victims all over the world.” she said.
