To Johannesburg, where a seminar on governance is currently underway. This event's theme is "Contributing BRICS' Wisdom to Global Governance in the interests of the people". It is jointly hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, The South African National School of Government, the South African Human Sciences Research Council, and the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. CGTN's Yolisa Njamela has more.
YOLISA NJAMELA JOHANNESBURG "The purpose of the seminar is to share experiences on how to build effective global governance. The first BRICS Seminar on Governance was held in China in 2017. It was then decided that the seminar will be held each year by a host school of government of each BRICS country where the summit is held. The theme of the conference is 'Contributing BRICS' Wisdom to Global Governance in the interests of the people'."
PROF. RICHARD LEVIN, PRINCIPAL NATIONAL SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT, SOUTH AFRICA "It is not by accident that we attach the phrase 'in the interest of the people'. We cannot shirk our responsibilities to ensure that all our institutions, nationally and on the global level, put the interests of the people first. If it does not, then it is global tyranny."
About a 100 representatives, senior leaders and think tanks from the BRICS countries are here. All BRICS members emphasized that the exchanges and discussions of governance and mutual learnings here are of great significance for BRICS countries to achieve greater development in the future.
GUO WEIMIN, VICE MINISTER STATE COUNCIL INFORMATION OFFICE, CHINA "We should adhere to "people-centered" value orientation. President Xi Jinping has formed deep and natural bonds with the people. He cares about their happiness and sadness, speaks for them, and stands up for them."
These discussions will be featured in the BRICS leadership summit due to take place later this month.
