Chief negotiators from China and the Republic of Korea will meet in Seoul in a resumption of the six-party talks, foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang confirmed on Thursday in Beijing.
Geng said at a daily press briefing that China's vice foreign minister and special representative of the Chinese government on Korean Peninsula affairs, Kong Xuanyou, will be in Seoul from Friday to Saturday and will hold consultations with Lee Do-hoon, ROK's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs.
Geng also stressed China hoped the DPRK and the ROK would make concrete efforts to mend ties.
"China hopes the international community will support the efforts by the DPRK and ROK, and China encourages all parties involved to do things that ease tensions and increase mutual trust," he added.
"It serves the interests of the DPRK and ROK to improve ties through dialogue and promote reconciliation and cooperation," Geng also pointed out. "It is also conducive to alleviating the tension on the Korean Peninsula, achieving denuclearization and maintaining peace, stability and security of the region."
