CPC National Congress holds press conference on ideology, theory and culture

Leading officials from the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Steering Committee for Ethical and Cultural Progress, the Ministry of Culture, and the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television held a joint press conference Friday as the 19th CPC National Congress enters its third day.
On cultural confidence and Chinese Dream
Sun Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of CPC Central Committee, briefed the media on major progress that have been achieved in cultural programs and industries during the past five years.
Cultural confidence is the fundamental force that sustains the development of the country in this aspect, Sun said.
Sun added that the country have seen thriving cultural industries and a boost in cultural confidence under the leadership of CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at its core.
The Chinese Dream is about the nation and each individual, said Xia Weidong, Deputy Director of the Office of the National Steering Committee for Ethical and Cultural Progress, adding that the goal of fulfilling the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation will be achieved with the guidance of socialist core values.
Development of China’s cultural industry
During the past five years, China's cultural industries have been constantly standardized, and it has been expanding public services and ramping up effort to increase the production of new works.
Sun Zhijun said the added value of the cultural industry has reached 3.08 trillion yuan (470 billion US dollars) and its share of GDP has increased from 3.48 percent to 4.14 percent in the past five years.
China ranks first in the world in terms of book publication, and TV series and cartoon production, Sun added.
Zhang Hongsen, Vice Minister of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, said that China has formed modern media industry with strong powers of communication. He said 98.37 percent of Chinese population have access to radio, while 98.88 percent of people in China now have access to TV.
The Party national congress began in Beijing on Wednesday. It is a major political event that will lay out a blueprint for the future of the Party and the country over the coming five years.
