Over to Senegal and the 2019 International World Dance Festival. Artists, choreographers and dancers from different countries showcased their talents through creative performances. Take a look.
It was a festival that involved seven dance companies each with different dance troops. Audiences were treated to four days of well-choreographed dances- touching on different themes.
The International World Dance Festival is Senegal's biggest of its kind. This year's event was the tenth. And it was themed around African creativity - in honor of Senegalese scholar Cheikh Anta Diop.
GACIRAH DIAGNE PRESIDENT, KAAY FECC ASSOCIATION "We need to show that there is a whole generation of young Africans who are ready to showcase their talents - be it in culture or elsewhere. Our objective is to offer a platform to enable them to showcase their work."
ABDOU BA PROFESSIONAL CHOREOGRAPHER "Senegalese youth tend to change their original dance because they are influenced by the West. As a result, they are less and less familiar with our traditions. I am happy to be able to share this experience with some of them."
Teams from United States, Senegal, Congo and Gabon took part. Apart from stage performances, panelists also explored ways of enabling more participation by women in future dance festivals.
More dance festivals are in the pipeline as Senegal seeks to entrench its position as Africa's cultural capital.
