Spring Festival Travel Rush: 10.6 million rail journeys expected across China on Tuesday
[]
We begin with the latest on China's biggest holiday -- the Spring Festival. It's the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, and another busy day for Spring Festival travel.
As people are packing up to return to work from their hometowns after visiting relatives, China's railway system is expecting a spike in passenger flow. 10-point-6 million trips are forecast to be made via railway on Tuesday. That's the equivalent of the entire population of the Czech Republic! The number is up by a million compared to that of Monday. The China Railway Corporation says that it has dispatched more than 9 hundred additional trains to accommodate the travel rush.
