No matter the A4 Waist Challenge that allows netizens to show off their bodies, or The Dress that might be blue and black or white and gold – the social media craze is always there to let the Internet lose its mind. And now here comes a new one in terms of hands flexibility.
Can you make a “finger knot”?
It all began with a seemingly simple finger move by a young actor Zhang Yishan who played the protagonist Qiu Shui in a trending 40-episode Chinese drama this summer, putting his little finger on top of his thumb while keeping the other three fingers straight when making a wish in the TV show.

Later, Li Sisi, China Central Television Station’s anchorwoman carried it forward by posting photos on Weibo, China's equivalent of Twitter, showed her interlocking fingers to form the shape of a knot and encouraged her followers to try the same – that’s when the bizarre challenge went viral on Chinese social media.

Some 150,000 views have been aggregated on the Weibo topic page containing a hash tag of #FingerKnotChallenge since the past two weeks. Thousands of photos, either performing the difficult finger tricks correctly or less successfully, flooded onto different social media platforms, including Instagram and Twitter.

Some netizens joked about their fingers being disjointed after a failed attempt, “I’ve got to go to the hospital now,” said @FSZHNHHM on Weibo. Others also suggested to try out the Chinese knot next time, which is a traditional decorative handicraft art in ancient times.
An even higher degree of difficulty in terms of the hands’ flexibility can also be found online, while medical experts warned people not to sustain or hold these stretched positions on the joints for extended periods of time as it may lead to joint and tissue irritation and pain, according to Dailymail.
So if you get bored today, try stretching out your fingers – if you find it easy to achieve, do the trick with just one hand then!
